Trees located in the same place will usually develop identical ring patterns as a reflection of the same shared environment and weather conditions. Trees rooted in wetter climates will be subject to developing thicker tree rings compared to the thin rings occurring through the trunks of trees located in dryer areas. Since the patterns of very old trees can also represent climate changes, a tree over 50s dating years could have patterns that consist of both thicker and slimmer rings.
Although it can vary slightly different between various tree types, most trees gain none ring per one year of life. The rings of trees from hotter areas have clearer more visible rings.
A single cross section of a trees trunk can give a good indication of the tree's age but experts of the science prefer to cross analyse the patters across the entire length of a trunk to gauge the age most accurately.
